Shoalsgate is likely named after one of the City’s gates located near the sea. A shoal is a sand or gravel bar, and its possible the district was built on such a landmark.
It is the location of one of the largest City Watch Stations. As it is the most prominent feature of the district, the prison is often simply known as ‘Shoalsgate’ itself.
The area is also home to a tavern and City utility building.
