Keeper Artemus is one of Garrett’s only advocates and allies throughout the entirety of the series, and although he trained Garrett, his background before doing so remains somewhat of a mystery.

Overview
Almost nothing is known of Artemus before the start of Thief: The Dark Project. At some point in his youth he was recruited by the Keepers and underwent their training.
Eventually he became a respected member of the Keeper Council. He was highly skilled and one of the only other characters to rival Garrett’s talents for infiltration and subterfuge
The Dark Project
While walking through street, Artemus attracted the attention of a young Garrett who noted that he didn’t seem to be noticed by anyone else and was carrying a pouch of gold. He made a grab for it but Artemus saw it coming.
Noting his talent, Artemus presented Garrett with an invitation to join the Keepers. After Garrett accepted Artemus oversaw his training and kept an eye on him even after he left the order.
After being betrayed by Constantine, Artemus was one of the two Keepers that saved Garrett’s life.
After the Trickster’s defeat, Artemus caught up with Garrett near a Mechanist statue and told him that he still had much to learn but had followed the prophecies thus far.
He also informed Garrett that he had discovered some Keeper texts that he should read, but Garrett rebuked him, stating that he didn’t need the Keepers and didn’t want anything more to do with their prophecies.
The Metal Age
Artemus was present when Garrett was summoned to hear the Keeper prophecies of the Metal Age. Garrett dismissed them yet again, believing they were meaningless.
As he left, Artemus followed him and gave him intel on Truart’s motives for wanting Garrett dead in the hopes that he would help the Keepers after dealing with Truart.
When Viktoria started her attack on Soulforge Cathedral, the Keeper Council did not wish to interfere but Artemus went against their orders to find Garrett and tell him what was happening.
After Karras perished within Soulforge Cathedral, Artemus met Garrett outside the gates where the thief pondered if everything that had happened, including the deaths of Karras and Vikoria, were foretold in the Keeper’s prophecies. Artemus confirmed they were and that there was more. Finally intrigued, Garrett told Artemus that he wanted to hear them.
Deadly Shadows
Knowing Garrett would visit a fence in Stonemarket, Artemus left a note for him that requested the two meet in Terces Courtyard. Upon his arrival, Artemus told him of the Keepers’ interest in the Builder’s Chalice and Jacknall’s Paw and promised access to the prophecies in return.
He gives Garrett the location of the artifacts and says they’ll meet again in two nights time. Wondering why Orland would want such items, Artemus requested some information on the relics known as the Sentients.
Garrett acquired both the Chalice and Paw, and as promised Artemus took him to the Keeper Library to listen as Caduca read from the prophecies.
When the Stonemarket Clocktower collapsed and Caduca was found dead, Garrett was put on trial where Artemus did his best to vouch for him.
After Garrett escaped the trial, Artemus noted that although he did not seem himself, he didn’t believe Garrett was guilty. Rather, he thought Orland’s judgement was clouded.
Artemus quickly became convinced that the Keepers’ had lost their balance. He proceeded to leave the Compound and his hunt for the truth eventually led him to Gamall’s Lair where he met up with Garrett once again.
Artemus had found her inner sanctum and figured out her real intentions: destroying the fabled Final Glyph. He then gave Garrett a map that marked the locations that allowed for its activation and told him to recover the artifacts needed to do so while he found Orland and informed the Keepers.
Death
At some point after meeting with Orland and divulging the truth to him, Artemus was found by Gamall and killed. She then took his form to meet up with Garrett when he left the Wieldstrom Museum with the Sentients.
